Ella loves Halloween, so I've been trying to come up with lots of fun activities throughout the month. One year we received a "Boo" from a neighbor - lots of treats with a note telling you to 'pay it forward.' However, we received it on Halloween so we weren't able to play along. This year, I picked up some large colored gumballs & spider rings & packaged up some cute little goodie bags. There are several sites that have directions & poems like this one:
The air is cool, the season fall,
Soon Halloween will come to all.
With ghosts and goblins, spooks galore,
Trick-or-treaters at the door.
The spooks are after things to do.
In fact, a spook brought this to you.
The treats that come with this short note
Are yours to keep. Enjoy them both!
Excitement grows when friends like you
Will copy it and make it two.
Neighbors will have smiling faces;
None can guess who “BOO-ed” which places.
A day or two to work your spell,
But keep it secret! Hide it well!
Join in the fun; the season’s here.
So spread these “BOOs”—and share the cheer!
We attached this poem to the goodie bag with directions on how to play along. Then, Ella helped us sneakily leave them at friend's homes. On Sunday, the door rang & Ella opened it & found a plate of cookies & hot cocoa on our door step. We had been "booed" in a very fancy way! She was very concerned that we didn't know who left the treats. We explained several times that her friends didn't know that she was the one who left goodies either. But, the concept was lost. Finally, the excitement of the hot chocolate took over - at least until she realized Charlie had taken a bite of every cookie & then put them back on the plate.
