Several weeks ago, Nick mentioned that he thought we should meet downtown after work to celebrate my birthday. That should have been a big clue that something was amiss - Nick always rolls his eyes when I try to plan in advance. From the beginning of our relationship, he has always delighted in the anxiety I feel when I am surprised. Luckily, when I discovered that he had planned for my sister to visit over my birthday weekend, I was giddy with anticipation. Ella was a champion secret keeper - I was very impressed (Nick made the wise decision not to tell the twins). Jessica showed up at dinner on Thursday night & the partying began. We had a light dusting of snow that evening (the mountains only received 12 inches in 24 hours), so Ella's school had a 2 hour delay Friday morning. The kids thought that was hilarious.
Jessica & I spent what was left of the day exploring new neighborhoods & having fun. Day 2 of the birthday celebrations arrived when she volunteered to watch the kids while Nick & I had a date night - it felt like our first in months!
We had a lovely dinner at while the kids baked my birthday cake under Jessica's supervision. Greta saw me wearing my vest & wanted to wear her "life jacket" too.
Day 3 of the birthday celebrations kicked off with cake for breakfast (with Peppermint Jo Jo ice cream from Trader Joe's - kids new fave).
Then, Jessica & I headed off to Santa Fe for some big time pampering. I can't believe how much thought & time Nick put into planning such an amazing weekend for me. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world! More on the details of our adventure tomorrow . . .
