One of my friends told me about a fun super mini triathalon for kids. I signed all three up without asking them about it. Charlie was not pleased. In fact, he cried so much & fell to the floor in despair so often, I almost caved & let him watch from the sidelines.
My friend had a carbo loading party the night before the race. Though, I have learned that "carbo loading" is an outdated concept that is no longer followed (and kids can't carbo load anyway). It was still fun & I liked the excuse to eat pasta.
My little hold out was not happy going to the race and we were feeling like pushy parents making him try (though I KNEW he would have no problems completing each task).
I'm so glad we did stood our ground. We never quite scheduled those swim lessons this summer, but they all did great.
It was so awesome to see how proud they were when they climbed out of the water after finishing the grueling 25 yard swim.
I stayed with the twins while Nick went back to keep Ella company in the waiting area. The twins had a fast transition to biking.
When I saw Charlie flying back on the bike leg, I knew he was hooked.
Greta caught up with our neighbor. Greta said she asked if she could pass, but Sofia said no! The girls took off running together.
The run was so short, I missed Charlie crossing the finish line. He had a huge smile on his face though.
Ella's heat was way after the twins so we watched her transition.
Nick rode with her. Somehow I missed them coming back. We ran into so many people we knew, it almost felt like we were part of the community.
The kids want to participate again next year which makes me so happy. It's amazing how much confidence they gained through this event. They also want to train more & think about how they can cut time from the transitions! I think I need to schedule some swim lessons & find some more kid triathlons in our area for next year.
