Tavira seems to be one of the few towns in Portugal with old stuff still standing.
Tavira had a different feel than a lot of towns that we visited. One side of the river was a nondescript town.
While the other side was all cobble stone roads, old churches and history.
We walked around the town and saw the old fortress and church, enjoyed lunch and then walked to catch the ferry.
We should have checked the ferry schedule before walking through town because we ended up waiting almost an hour for the ferry. The ferry passengers made it seem like we were in the States headed to a popular state park.
Once we made it to the island, it was worth it.
It reminded me a bit of Isla Mujeres in Mexico.
Tavira Island had the most "traditional" sand that we saw in Portugal.
It also had the best sea shells.
There was some sort of windsurfing competition going on. The boats were so colorful & fun to watch.
We definitely could have stayed longer on the beach, but eventually it was time to head back to the condo.
I loved seeing a fisherman clamming on the way out of town.
